In large manufacturing plants, material often needs to travel tens or even hundreds of metres between production halls, warehouses and individual processing stations. This is where unnecessary downtime, bottlenecks and inefficient material handling can occur.
An overhead crane is the ideal solution for lifting and positioning heavy loads. However, it is not designed for transporting material throughout an entire manufacturing plant. When the crane has to perform both lifting and transport tasks, it reduces its availability for other production operations and can become a bottleneck in the manufacturing process.
The right equipment for the right task
Efficient internal logistics is achieved when every piece of equipment performs the task it was designed for.
The overhead crane safely loads and unloads the material, while the rail transfer car transports heavy sheet metal bundles between workstations and production halls. This approach improves material flow, increases the utilisation of lifting equipment and helps eliminate unnecessary production downtime.
A customer-specific rail transfer car
For one of our customers, we designed, manufactured and successfully completed the Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) of a 70-tonne rail transfer car for transporting sheet metal bundles between production halls.
The transfer car is operated by radio remote control, allowing safe, convenient and precise handling of heavy loads while reducing operator effort.
The system operates on a rail track integrated into the customer's production facility. The rail infrastructure was constructed by the customer according to jointly agreed technical specifications, while Prestar designed and supplied the rail transfer car specifically for the customer's production process.
